What is Windy City Darters?
Windy City Darters is a 501(c)(7) not-for-profit corporation founded in 1982 to promote the appreciation of the game of darts in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The Organization runs 4 weekly leagues for its membership, providing friendly (though often intensive) competition at all skill levels. In addition to league play, Windy City Darters also runs two major annual tournaments as well as numerous events for Charity. -
How many members are associated with the Organization?
As of January 1, 2005, Windy City Darters had 1,423 active members. We expect to see that number increase substantially in the near future as we seek out new players and expand into new geographic areas. -
What geographic areas are served by Windy City Darters?
The majority of our members reside in the North Side of the City of Chicago and its Northern, Northwestern and Western Suburbs, although we have active players living in Northwest Indiana and Southern Wisconsin as well. -
How are the leagues organized?
Players are rated based on individual skill level, and teams compete against each other with similar skill levels for maximum enjoyment and fairness. There are 3 different league formats:-
Open League – played on Monday & Tuesday nights – various games. 4 to 8 players per team; no gender restrictions.

Mixed League – played on Thursday nights – various games. 4 to 8 players per team; minimum 2 men and 2 women.

Saturday League - played on Saturday afternoons – various games. 4 to 8 players per team; no gender restrictions.

What are the venues for play?
Weekly WCD teams are hosted by over 120 local taverns. Tournaments and special events are held in banquet halls or convention facilities. -
How are league operations funded and who runs the Corporation?
General league operations are funded via dues and fees assessed on the membership. Sponsorship revenue is solicited for tournaments, capital purchases, and ancillary activities.The overall operation of the Organization is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. Daily operations are administered by a full time staff on the Corporations’ payroll.

What tournaments are run by Windy City Darters and how large are they?
Two major tournaments are run annually by the Organization:- Windy City Cup – Illinois State Invitational Darts Championship – This is a weekend tournament open to all residents of the State of Illinois. Held in March, this has been a very successful and well-attended event since its inception in 1983. In 2004, over $21,000 in prize money was awarded to participants.
- Windy City Open - International Tournament – The Open is the oldest and longest-running tournament in the U.S. Held every September since 1976, this event draws players from over 10 different countries, including many of the top rated players in the world.
