Singles League Q&A

August 7, 2009 – 9:49 am -

There have been a lot of questions about the Singles League, including “What if I’m married?” So, we decided to create this Q&A to set the record straight.

1. What if I’m married?
The Singles League is not a league for single people looking to meet someone, though that’s ok if you do. What we mean is a league for one-on-one competition—you versus your opponent.

2. What’s the point?
The point of Singles League is to give players a chance to go head-to-head with their opponents. It’s also a good way to improve your skills by playing more. In team play, a competitor may get two or three chances to shoot. In Singles League, you get five.

3. What if I get paired against someone that is much better than me?
As more players sign up for Singles League, we’ll be able to break it up into divisions. However, in the beginning, there is a chance you’ll get paired against someone with a higher rank. But that just makes it a better challenge, right?

4. When do we play?
That’s up to you and your opponent. You have to schedule your match between Sunday morning and Saturday night. If you have to reschedule outside of your week of play, you must contact the WCD office by Thursday at 5 p.m. during the scheduled week. It is the responsibility of the “away” player to schedule the match (though it’s ok if the “home” player wants to reach out first).

5. Where do we play?
The person designated as “home” for the week of play chooses the venue. If you cannot agree on a venue, then you must use a venue on the acceptable venues list (not yet published). If another WCD league is playing on the boards, they get precedence. Also, if several Singles League matches are being played at the venue, it’s first come first served—the last arriving “home” players have to find another venue.

6. What do we play?
Five games, and you get a point for each game you win.
Game 1 – Chicago Format, best of 3 legs
Game 2 – 501, best of 5 legs
Game 3 – Cricket, best of 5 legs
Game 4 – 301, best of 5 legs
Game 5 – Chicago Format, best of 3 legs

7. How do we report matches?
Both players are responsible for reporting the match results. You can do this in one of two ways:
a. Send an e-mail with the results to singlesleague@windycitydarters.org; or
b. Enter the results on the Match Report on the WCD Web site (www.windycitydarters.org).

8. How do I sign up?
Go to the Registration page and complete the Singles League Registration form. You can also make your payment directly with PayPal.

9. What if I have more questions?
Go here http://www.windycitydarters.org/contact-webmaster and ask.
